The "Texas Model Aeronautics Foundation" was organized on January 24, 2006
by a group of model aeronautic enthusiast with the goal of teaching the public the basics of construction and flight of model aircraft. The foundation was structured to promote the advancement of the sport of model aeronautics through a family-orented approach. The foundation is composed of a ten-member board that overseas the development of the site, daily operations, and events. Five members are model aeronautic enthusiast of various disciplines from the Waco Area. These board members form the management side of the foundation and includes the President, Vice-President, Treasurer/Secretary, Safety Officer and Field Marshall. The remaining five board members play an advisory role to the foundation and are teachers and businessmen from throughout the community.
Development of a Multi-Use Aeronautical Facility
The proposed facility is located within the City of Valley Mills, Texas Airport property
along Patton Road just west of State Highway 6. The lease area comprises 18.466 acres pf land. The lease area will be fenced along all property sides with the exception of the east boundary the abuts existing emergency runway #9. Landscaping will be provided in the spectator area for shading and lease lines that do not conflict with model aircraft airspace. There will be a paved and grass runway the will be 600 feet in length. The infield area's will be grass. Concrete taxiways will provide access to the runway from the pilot shelters. These shelters will be open-air metal structures with concrete foundations. A control line area will be constructed to display two grass circles for competition, and a pavilion with parking area.
The site will project a gravel public parking area containing 487 spaces, and 20 spaces
for recreation vehicles that visit the site. Water and electricity will be available to the recreation vehicles and other area's of the site. Internal fences will designate the area's
for spectators, parking, and other uses. There will be an emergency access gate and main entrance gate along Patton Road that will be locked when not in use. There will be a granite sign and flag pole when entering the facility. Bleachers and concessions will be provided to the spectators located in the center of the facility for viewing of events. The multi-use complex will house restrooms facilities, classrooms, concessions and future museum for mode aviation paraphernalia. An astronomical observing complex will be constructed to allow the Texas Astronomical Society to instruct interested persons.
The foundation will conduct a series of events annually which may include a pattern aerobatic contest, Big Bird ( large airplanes), jet rally, warbirds, races and weekly times to teach safe flying to model enthusiasts. These events will be placed on the Academy of Model Aeronautics National Website-Dictrict VIII and on the foundations website. These websites will include information of the event type, date, location, proximity to the city of Valley Mills, restaurants, businesses, and accommodations
